  • New Episode Alert: Inside the Lab – The Science of HELIOS with Professor Khrystyna Ivaniuk
HELIOS 0 Comments March 20, 2026

We are thrilled to announce the release of the third episode of our podcast “HELIOS: New Light on Science!” – and this time, we go deeper than ever before, stepping directly into the scientific core of the project.

Our guest is Professor Khrystyna Ivaniuk, Head of the Electronic Engineering Department at Lviv Polytechnic National University – the primary research hub where HELIOS technologies are being developed and tested. The conversation is led by Nazariy Andrushchak, the HELIOS Project Manager, who guides us through the scientific landscape that defines the project’s ambitions.

What will you discover in this episode?

Bio-Organic vs. Conventional LEDs: Professor Ivaniuk explains what fundamentally sets bio-organic light-emitting diodes apart from the lighting technologies we use today – and why this distinction matters for the future of sustainable illumination.

The Monomolecular OLED Breakthrough: A clear and accessible look at why white-emitting monomolecular OLEDs represent a landmark achievement in organic electronics, and what it took to get there.

Heterolayer Architectures: How the precise engineering of device layers directly determines efficiency and long-term stability – and what HELIOS researchers are doing to push these boundaries.

From Materials to Devices: A fascinating account of how advanced materials developed by international consortium partners are received, processed, and integrated into functional light-emitting devices at Lviv Polytechnic.

Secondments and Knowledge Exchange: Why the mobility of researchers across the consortium’s partner institutions in Ukraine, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Latvia, and Luxembourg is not just beneficial – but essential to the project’s success.

HELIOS and the Green Deal: How the project’s research agenda directly supports the European Union’s energy efficiency targets and the ambitions of the Green Deal 2050.

Cutting-Edge Equipment: An overview of the advanced instrumentation used to study the photophysical properties of organic materials – the foundation of everything HELIOS builds upon.

The Road Ahead: Where Professor Ivaniuk sees these technologies appearing in real-world applications within the next 5 to 10 years.

This episode is more than a scientific briefing – it is an invitation to see the laboratory as a place where disciplines converge, where international collaboration produces something greater than the sum of its parts, and where the “light of the future” is being shaped today.
