About Project

SCIENTIFIC SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The HELIOS project focuses on pioneering research in white-emitting organic systems to advance the next generation of solid-state lighting technologies. Its scientific scope covers the development of ultra-efficient, single-molecular white emitters for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) and down-converting white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). By bridging fundamental research with practical applications, HELIOS sets the stage for next-generation lighting solutions that are cost-effective, high-performing, and environmentally sustainable for different areas of applications.

PROJECT AIM

HELIOS’s overall aim is to boost the scientific excellence and innovation capacity of Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) and its high-quality Twinning partners – Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), University of Glasgow (UoG), Riga Technical University (RTU) and Intelligentsia Consultants Sarl (INT) – to develop white-emitting organic systems for lighting applications. To achieve this aim, HELIOS will implement a research and innovation (R&I) strategy over three years based upon five objectives implemented via nine closely related work packages (WPs).

OBJECTIVE #1: Conduct exploratory research on white-emitting organic systems for lighting applications.

HELIOS is dedicated to advancing cutting-edge research in white-emitting organic materials for next-generation lighting technologies. This objective focuses on the development of ultra-efficient, single-molecular white emitters designed for white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) and down-converting white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs).

By pushing the boundaries of solid-state lighting, HELIOS aims to achieve a breakthrough in cost-efficiency and performance, paving the way for sustainable, high-performance lighting solutions with wide-ranging applications in energy-efficient illumination and display technologies.

OBJECTIVE #2: Fostering knowledge between experienced researchers (ERs) of LPNU and the Twinning partners.

HELIOS aims to facilitate knowledge transfer between the experienced researchers (ERs) at Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) and its Twinning partners. This objective focuses on organizing short-term staff exchanges, training sessions, and seminars to enhance collaboration and complement the exploratory research outlined in Objective 1.

By fostering cross-border partnerships and skill development, this initiative aims to strengthen the research capabilities of all involved institutions, driving innovation and accelerating the advancement of white-emitting organic systems for lighting applications.

OBJECTIVE #3: Enhance career prospects of early-stage researchers (ESRs) of LPNU and the Twinning partners.

HELIOS is committed to enhancing the career prospects of early-stage researchers (ESRs) at Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) and its Twinning partners. This objective focuses on providing opportunities for professional growth through a variety of initiatives, including short- and medium-term exchanges, training workshops, seminars, summer schools, and the establishment of a joint PhD programme.

By supporting the career development of ESRs, HELIOS fosters international collaboration, nurtures research talent, and empowers the next generation of scientists to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in organic white-emitting systems and solid-state lighting technologies.

OBJECTIVE #4: Improve LPNU’s management and administrative capacity for European R&D programmes.

HELIOS aims to enhance LPNU’s Project Office capabilities in managing European research and development (R&D) programmes. This objective focuses on improving the skills of LPNU staff in areas such as proposal preparation, project management, and innovation management for securing and executing EU-funded R&D projects.

By strengthening these core administrative functions, HELIOS will enable LPNU to better participate in and lead international research collaborations, fostering a more dynamic and competitive research environment within Europe.

OBJECTIVE #5: Raise the research profile of LPNU and the Twinning partners.

HELIOS is focused on raising the research profile and scientific reputation of Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) and its Twinning partners. This objective will be achieved through a comprehensive range of dissemination, exploitation, communication, and outreach activities designed to share research findings, promote innovations, and engage a broader audience.

By enhancing visibility and fostering collaborations, HELIOS aims to establish its partners as leaders in organic light-emitting systems and solid-state lighting, contributing to the global scientific community and strengthening international research networks.
