 
												Trainer: Giles Brandon (Intelligentsia Consultants)
Giles Brandon is highly experienced in providing training in project management and proposal writing to researchers and research managers in EU-funded projects (H2020 and Horizon Europe). Notably, he has helped to implement four Twinning projects evaluated “exceptional” in the EC’s final reviews: ASCIMAT (2016-2018), TUTORIAL (2016-2018), DRIVEN (2018-2022) and MaNaCa (2019-2023). He is a member of the Association of European Science and Technology Transfer Professionals (ASTP), the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), and the Institute of Physics (IOP). Since 2009, his company – Intelligentsia Consultants – has coordinated or supported over fifty (50) FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects. Many such projects have involved research institutes in Widening Countries in the development of centers of excellence, integration into ERA, and technology transfer in the fields of physics, nanomaterials, and sensor,s e.g. FP7 NANOMAT-EPC – evaluated “excellent”, FP7 SENS-ERA, FP7 SECURE-R2I, H2020 INTELUM, H2020 FIT-4-NMP – evaluated “excellent,” and H2020 NOMATEN Phase I – selected for 15m euro Phase II funding.
The project management training was delivered in a series of modules. Each module included a 1– to 1.5–hour online lecture. A few homework questions were assigned for each module to help consolidate the knowledge gained during the lectures. Participants who completed the homework for each module received a Certificate of Horizon Europe Project Management at the end of the course.

Content: Initiation Phase: Identifying Horizon Europe calls for proposals and understanding eligibility criteria; Formulating a project idea aligned with EU priorities; Building a consortium.
Planning Phase: Drafting the proposal (scientific excellence, impact, and implementation); Resource allocation (personnel, financial, materials); Risk management; Submission and evaluation; Grant agreement preparation; Consortium agreement.

Execution Phase: Project implementation (Executing work packages, coordination among partners, deliverable submission, milestone achievement); Resource management (allocating and tracking resources); Communication and dissemination (continuous communication with consortium, project result dissemination, Horizon Europe communication guidelines).
Control Phase: Monitoring and reporting (Tracking project progress, KPIs, Preparing periodic technical and financial reports); Risk management (Monitoring risks, Implementing risk mitigation strategies); Quality assurance (Ensuring deliverables meet quality standards, Conducting internal reviews)
Closing Phase: Final reporting and deliverables; Knowledge transfer and exploitation; Administrative closure; Evaluation and lessons learned.
