We are delighted to share that Nataliia Kuzyk, a early-stage researcher at Lviv Polytechnic National University working within the HELIOS project, has won the Best Poster Award at the 28th International Conference-School “Advanced Materials and Technologies” (AMT 2026), held on 24–28 August 2026 in Palanga, Lithuania.
The poster session took place on Thursday, 27 August, chaired by Dr Tomas Tamulevičius of Kaunas University of Technology, and the winner was chosen by a vote of the conference participants. The awards were presented the same afternoon, immediately before the traditional conference photo.
Why this award counts
AMT is not a general materials conference with a poster session attached. It is a conference-school, organised by Kaunas University of Technology together with Vilnius University, Riga Technical University, the University of Latvia, the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, the University of Southern Denmark and the University of Tartu, and built specifically for young scientists and PhD students in materials science and condensed matter physics. The poster session is where the early-career researchers present their own work, and it is the heart of the event rather than a formality.
That makes the award a genuine peer verdict: Nataliia’s poster was judged the strongest by an audience of specialists who had spent the week listening to talks on organic optoelectronics, plasmonics, quantum technologies and advanced microscopy – and who were, in many cases, her direct competitors.
What it means for HELIOS
HELIOS is a twinning project, and one of its core objectives is to grow research capacity at Lviv Polytechnic National University — not only through equipment and publications, but by giving early-career Ukrainian researchers access to the European scientific community and a platform on which to be seen. An award voted by that community, at a school designed for exactly this generation of scientists, is one of the clearest possible signs that the objective is being met.
